"Wet Cigarette" is a song by Mars Argo. It was released as a demo to SoundCloud on November 23rd, 2013, but later taken down. It was likely intended for use on their canceled second studio album.

Background[]

Mars Argo posted lyrics from the song via Tumblr on July 29th, 2013,[1] and the track subsequently saw its live debut at Harvard & Stone on October 3rd, 2013.[2]

The song was released to SoundCloud on November 23rd, 2013, but later taken down in November 2015. On the day of its release, Argo posted a screenshot of full lyrics on Tumblr. Titanic Sinclair also posted a lyric to Twitter in a now-deleted tweet on September 12th, 2014.[3]

Following its SoundCloud release, Argo uploaded a more-finalized version of the song privately to her Bandcamp account, but never made it public. This version leaked online on July 6th, 2020.[4] Additionally, an instrumental demo was leaked on January 4th, 2017, as a result of a hack to Sinclair's email and iCloud accounts.

Lyrics[]

Ooh it's a silly little girl
But I can't stand up
And I won't sit down
And I'm nervous now
And I know you know

Ooh I'm running in a circle
I don't even remember my name
Remember my name

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Ooh it's a silly little girl
But it's on my mind
And we can't rewind
And I need some time
And I know you know

Ooh I'm running in a circle
I don't even remember my name
Remember my name

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Ooh it's a silly little girl
But it's on my mind
And we can't rewind
And I need some time
And I know that you know

Ooh I'm running in a circle
I don't even remember my name
Remember my name

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Ooh it's a silly little girl
But I can't stand up
And I won't sit down
And I'm nervous now
And I know that you know

Ooh I'm running in a circle
I don't even remember my name
Remember my name

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again
Never ever love again

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

I can see you smile from a mile away
Maybe we can make it, won't you stay?
Don't you be afraid, don't you be afraid
I will always walk you home

Trivia[]

  • In March of 2017, when a full length video of the song's Gibson Showroom performance was uploaded, Argo herself took to Reddit and asked people to stop sharing her "unreleased" videos and performances, stating if "[she] wanted them live [she] would share".[5] The full performance audio was available online prior to the video itself.
    • In this performance, the first and second verses are swapped around for unknown reasons.
  • The synth melody played before the verses of the song samples the beginning of the Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor "Quasi Una Fantasia" (English: "Almost a Fantasy") by Beethoven, more popularly known as "Moonlight Sonata".
  • On May 24th, 2022, Argo deleted the song from her Bandcamp page. Prior to this, it was set to private.
