"Spider in My Bathtub" is a song recorded by the band Mars Argo in 2010 for their scrapped extended play of the same name. It was released as a single with an audio-only video uploaded to the Grocerybag YouTube channel on September 23, 2010,[1] and was the second to last release of the Technology Is a Dead Bird album cycle, followed by the official music video for "Mrs. Stadler".

Background

The song is believed by many to be comprised of metaphors referencing masturbation while thinking of a lover. The audio video released for the song was accompanied by two photos taken by Noah Kalina as part of the EP cover artwork shoot. Modular synthesizer programming for the song was credited in the video description to long-time friends, Surachai and Justin McGrath.

An instrumental version of the song, simply titled "Spider", was uploaded to Mars Argo's SoundCloud in 2013, but this version remains unleaked. Mars confirmed in a reply to a fan on Facebook in 2011 that the song would be included on the band's later-scrapped second album, alongside "Electric Car", after being scrapped from the Linden Place EP.[2]

Lyrics

Butterflies awake me from my sleep
And the tiles sting like ice beneath my feet
My dress is slipping past my knees
And a memory of you is all I need

There's a spider in my bathtub
She looks like me
And she's crawling to the ceiling
And I'm waiting patiently
For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
Can you take me there?
When I think about your touch
I feel completely insane

When I close my eyes my heart begins to race
And I think about your lips and how they taste

There's a spider in my bathtub
She looks like me
And she's crawling to the ceiling
And I'm waiting patiently
For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
Can you take me there?
When I think about your touch
I feel completely insane

For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me there
(You're the only one who ever touched me)

For the telephone to ring
And I'm relatively lonely here
And I feel a little warm
And I wonder if you'll take me...
(You're the only one who ever touched me)
