"Love in Black and White" is a song by Mars Argo, included on later editions of Linden Place. It was released as a single on June 7th, 2011.[1]
Background[]
Mars Argo posted a lyric of the song to her Twitter account, alongside its title, to her Twitter account around October 6th, 2010.[2][3] The original 2010 version of the song, which carried the album tag Spider in My Bathtub EP, was leaked to YouTube on September 5th, 2017. This tagging may suggest that the song was intended to be the B-side to "Spider in My Bathtub".
The following year, garage-rock influenced production by Titanic Sinclair was received by the song. It was then subsequently released as a single in June of 2011,[1] and eventually merged into the Bandcamp release of Linden Place later that month, after being scrapped from the project initially.
The song was remixed sometime between early to mid-2011 with new production by Johnny K, and part of the process for re-working the song was featured in the unreleased video "Clips". This version of the song remained unreleased, but a short clip was used in a video promoting the band's live performance at Common Pitch in Milwaukee the following year.[4]
Lyrics[]
My life is very plain
I feel my figure changing
Watch the nights crawl by me
Love in black and white
Is making me so lonely
And only I can help myself now
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go
I fell into a phase
That I'm not fairly fond of
When I first met my permanent frown
The world is not out to get me
And I can clearly see
What this place has done to me
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go
Your misery is company
That I don't want to know
Take me where I want to go
I want to go, oh oh oh
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you
I'll never let you
I'll never let you go
My life is very plain
I feel my figure changing
Watch the nights crawl by me
Love in black and white
Is making me so lonely
And only I can help myself now
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go
I fell into a phase
That I'm not fairly fond of
When I first met my permanent frown
The world is not out to get me
And I can clearly see
What this place has done to me
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I like feeling electric
I like feeling you stare
I feel you turning me on now
I'll never let you go

Music video[]
The official music video for the song was released to YouTube on June 6th, 2011,[5] and later to Tony Katai's Vimeo on January 13th, 2012.[6] It was directed by Katai and Matthew Franklin, and depicts all of the band's at-the-time members playing the song together in the living room of Argo's family cabin. Argo states in "Whats Your Name (Part 2)" that she intended to wear a dress for the video, but settled on a striped jumper instead.
Katai's girlfriend Wesley Levise appears near the beginning of the video, and similarly appears in the background of certain shots of Computer Show episode "What Do You Love?", as well as appearing in behind the scenes footage of both videos in "Clips".
